Alright already, when is spring going to get here? Its been pretty chilly in southern OH this spring. That's given me time to work on the songs for the new album. Unfortunately, i don't always make good use of that time :-(
But while working on a song a couple of weeks ago, I was inspired on a new song. This one is much different than the rock and roll that you normally here. It probably fits more in the singer songwriter genre than rock. Anyway, the lyrics started coming out and I couldn't stop myself. It's called Lock and Key and will be released shortly, probably after Fantasies and Dreams single, and most definitely will be on the next album. By the way, I've decided to go the album route rather than the EP. Maybe I'm just stalling I don't know, but I think I have 7 or 8 songs now so that's a good start to an album. Come back soon to the site and take a listen to the new songs and some of the old ones. Also let me know what you think of the Rambling Man video.
Til then,
Fran

Ok its no April Fools joke, I've updated the page with a new video of a cover song of Allman Brothers Ramblin Man. One of my favorite songs, I was in a bit of a songwriting funk and started strumming it on my guitar. To keep my music going I set out to record this song. The results, down below and on YouTube, as well as my other videos and songs are there for your listening pleasure.
i'm wrapping up the latest song for my next album. I started writing this song last summer, got stuck, let it sit and incubate, and pulled it back out in February and finished it up in March. I'll be posting it here shortly. The name of the song and the album is Fantasies and Dreams.

Hi folks,
Hopefully, as you are reading this you are listening to my latest song post, Friday Night Next Week. This is a bit of a hard rocking tune so crank up the volume and experience the song as it was meant to be. Let me know what you think through the comments section down below. The lyrics are posted on the Lyrics page. I spend a lot of time working on the lyrics as I want them to be meaningful and with context.
I also uploaded the lyrics for the entire Test Patterns album on the lyrics section. Got a song in particular you weren't sure of the words as you listened? Go to the page and find your favorite.
As you know, I've always posted my songs for free downloads. If someone wants the CD with all the songs and the artwork etc. one can purchase it through the Listen to the Music page and PayPal.
I'm thinking about letting people pay what they want for the song downloads. For me it's a way to gauge how people support what I do and their level of enjoyment of the music. There are some that will pay something and others that won't and either way it's fine with me. What do you think, do you feel like you get more value when you pay for something? Is getting it for free the bargain you think it is? I don't know, I'm riding the fence, help me make this decision!
Til then,
Fran

Hey everyone,
Hoping everything is good where you are. Just having a rocking time in Southern Ohio.
I hope you've taken the time to listen and download the songs on the left. Free of charge, no committment, just free music.
You might find it interesting to note that each song takes me anywhere from 3 to 4 months from inception of the idea to producing the published version.
Songwriting is a challenge, but one that I enjoy. Kind of like a puzzle. You know what the picture should look like and you take time fitting all the pieces together. Songwriting and recording are like that too.
I am finishing up my 5th song in my personal challenge and I believe this will be the last song for the new EP. There will be 5 songs on the EP including the top 4 on the player on the left.
People ask me "Fran, why should I buy a CD when you put your songs on line for free?" The answer is a personal choice for an individual, however, think about the time and energy that any artist expends in creating something. These songs don't come out of thin air (well they sometimes do!) But the reality is, they take months of work. I won't say it's hard work, more a labor of love, but it is work none the less.
Many people will take the downloads for free, and if that's you, no problem. Drop me a note and let me know you liked them.
Others feel like they should pay something for them. If you feel so inclined then pop over to the "Listen to the Music" page and order one of the CD's.
Either way it's an honor for me that you are listening. I hope you have a great evening.
Fran

Hi folks!
Hopefully it's warming up where you are at. I think today was the warmest it's been in Southern Ohio for quite some time.
My latest song has been getting quite a few plays on the various web sites and in fact, Avenue of Broken Hearts is #2 in Ohio Rock at the website Number1Music.com! and my band ranking on Reverb Nation has risen to #3 in the Cincinnati market. And yes, there are more than 4 bands in Cincinnati! Worldwide I am ranked at 743 in the Rock category which is an all time high. I'm quite pleased with the rankings but what I'm most pleased with is that you have taken the time to listen to the music, shared it with your friends, and downloaded the songs!
You can still download for free any of the songs from the music player on the left and I would be honored that you would do that.
On another front, I have a new offer for you. Several people have told me they write poems, songs, etc and would love to have them put to music but they didn't have the time, aptitude, knowledge, etc to do this. If you fit into this group and have something you'd like turned into a song, let's work together. Contact me via the box on the left or at [email protected]. We can discuss your work, how you'd like it to sound, I can put something together. And if you like it, we can post it right here on this website among other places.
Til then,
Fran

I just posted my latest song "Avenue of Broken Hearts" on Reverb Nation and Soundcloud. You can listen and download to the left.
This song started out last summer with a stream of conscience session where I started with the line "Does this road take you where you want to go" and by the time I was done had a page and a half of notes. I also had a bit of a tune to go with it. Surprisingly, as I worked through this song, only the original line remained in the song and the music took on a whole new life of it's own. That's how it goes sometimes. Maybe those words and that tune will come back in another song.
This song is more a ballad than anything else I guess and it relies heavily on the piano to carry it through. While I've played piano on several songs, this is the first to really have a solid part to it.
I hope you like it. I had the song posted on a songwriting web site and got a lot of nice compliments about both the lyrics and the song.
Drop me a note and let me know what you think. I'm flattered when you take the time to listen.
Since the holidays, my Cincinnati standings have fallen to around 15 or so. The number of hits to the website, plays of the songs, facebook and twitter likes, etc. are all used to calculate the rankings so take a minute and hit those links :).
Thanks again for listening

Hi folks,
Things keep plugging along here at franssongs.com. We've got a new song out today called Breathing Room. I wrote this earlier this year, recorded and mixed it during the spring and summer. It's a song written at multiple levels and was inspired by a phrase an old country boy I knew used to say, one I'm sure you've heard about getting the bear or the bear getting you. The song started with the guitar riff you hear at the beginning of the song, before there were any words. I hadn't heard that phrase in a long time and it jumped out of my head one day while playing the riff. Next thing you know it's a song.
Right now you can download any of my songs for FREE right on the music player. For the present time, I'm providing free downloads of all songs. It's an honor that you play the songs and doubly so when you download them and listen to them again. Let me know what you think if you are so inclined.

Hey all! Last month I was saying it's great to be 18th in the Cincinnati Reverb Nation Rock charts. since then, 3 weeks have gone by and my ranking has now climbed to 7 (see sidebar). How does this happen? I ask myself that as well. It appears that the more people listen to the music, fan the page, share it on social media, and other ways, RN tracks that. Thanks to everyone's efforts this is the result.
Last month you read that I said most people don't want to pay form music, they want it for free. Well, for a limited time, you can download any of my tunes for absolutely FREE!!!!! That's right - FREE. Why? well no one buys them per my first note. So I figured it's more important that people enjoy the music than to make a few pennies on it, so why not give it away. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for keeping the momentum going. Have a great holiday and enjoy some great music.

Thanks for dropping by. Well, I never thought I'd be saying this but it's great to be 18th! 18th on the Cincinnati Reverb Nation Rock charts that is. I've reinvigorated my profile there, reached out to other artists and released 2 new songs. These are things that help propel one up the charts. I appreciate everyone's comments and taking time from their busy days and listening. It truly is humbling.
It's your efforts that are making this happen so I thank you first and foremost. It's also cool to see the hits to the web page coming in from countries around the globe. Google is a great tool!
Sky Blue and Breathe are both getting a lot of plays which is great. When I was in Canada this summer, I had some inspirations that I jotted down in my iphone. I've been tinkering with it since then, but then last week I got serious about it and a song started to emerge. It's not anything like I originally planned when I started, but that's the neat thing about songwriting. When you set foot on the path, you don't know where it will take you. The song is titled "Avenue of Broken Hearts" and I may post a demo version on here shortly to get your opinion.
I just noticed that you can download any of my songs for FREE from my player on the left or from my Reverb Nation site. Join the mailing list and you'll get advanced notice of new releases.
Thanks again for listening. Take a moment to hit the Share button on the player or Like and Share this on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Hello folks! Thanks for visiting the website. There's been a lot of activity going on and I'm glad you are part of it. As you may know I posted my new song "Breathe" about a month ago. I received a lot of favorable comments from folks so thanks for listening and commenting. Reverb Nation has been a good source of generating interest in my music and on their Rock charts for Cincinnati, my profile climbed as high as #20.
I just released my latest song, "Sky Blue" and you can hear it on the left. I also threw together a you tube "video" as I'm hearing that musicians should have a video. You can download the song for FREE from my player on the left or from my Reverb Nation site. Just click on the banner below and it will take you right to it. There will be another song that I'll release probably within the next month so check back for that or better yet, jump on the mailing list and get advanced notice.
I recently found an old video tape of a Mickey and the Mustangs performance from around 1990. There is a link to it on the left. The sound quality is horrible but hey it was the 90's and it was recorded on vhs. I'll be posting more in the future.
There's a lot of discussion in the music world about where it's going. A couple of interesting facts:
1. Most people would prefer to get music for free
2. CD sales are on the decline. People do more downloading of singles rather than entire CD's.
3. There has only been 1 album that's sold over 1 million copies this year but there have been 45 singles that have sold over 1 million.
4. While some folks are enjoying the resurgence of vinyl albums, the majority of folks still like the convenience of digital music.
Amazon has decided to stop listing albums from musicians like myself. My 2 albums, Test Patterns and Sweetwood are still available from this web site.
Alright already, when is spring going to get here? Its been pretty chilly in southern OH this spring. That's given me time to work on the songs for the new album. Unfortunately, i don't always make good use of that time :-(
