Grammy Award winner Sam Smith's Stay With Me is a great look at a fairly simple song arrangement. The lyrics are simple as well containing only two verses and a chorus that repeats 4 times. The song starts simply with the piano, bass drum, and vocal and gradually builds to include the choir and ultimately a string section. Other instruments such as the bass guitar are gradually introduced, and a quite strong but subtle organ part comes in during the second and final chorus. The tambourine, subtle as it is, adds some high end sparkle during the 2nd and final chorus. This song clocks in at just under 3 minutes and shows that it doesn't take a major production to win a Grammy. I guess it helps to have a heart tugging story to go with it too.
